Special Layer/Breeder House Disinfection Programme

For ongoing bacteria and virus problems

1

DRY-CLEAN

1.1 – Empty and raise feeders and drinkers
1.2 – Remove all equipment, slats, nesting boxes/cages, litter, dung, dust and dirt.

2

CLEANING AND WATER SANITISATION

2.1 – SOAK slats and removed nest boxes/cages for 3 – 4 days
ALKALIENE BLUE 1:50 – 1:40 (2 – 2.5%)
2.2 – POWER-WASH slats and removed nest boxes/cages with
ALKALIENE BLUE 1:50 – 1:40 (2 – 2.5%)
2.3 – FILL WATER SYSTEM
Using either AQUASTERIL, INTERQUADES or INTERAQUA 1:50 (2%) solution, open the taps at the ends of the water lines to ensure they fill completely. Once the lines are full, close the ends of the pipes and sweep the waterline nipples with a broom to activate them.
If the water system is circulated, leave the sanitizer to circulate for at least 6 hours. If the pipes are non-circulating, leave the sanitizer to work for 24 – 72 hours.
Once the water system has been sanitized, empty the system and flush through with clean water. Leave to dry.
2.4 – APPLY FOAM to shed surfaces and equipment
ALKALIENE BLUE 1% – 2.5% (1:100 – 1:40) through a foaming lance at low pressure and leave for at least 30 mins, then power wash shed surfaces and outside concrete apron with water under high pressure.
2.5 – REMOVE ANY POOLS OF WATER from the floor and allow the shed to dry.
2.6 – REPLACE ALL SLATS AND NEST BOXES/CAGES in the house prior to disinfecting.

3

DISINFECTION

3.1 – Close doors and vents, then disinfect shed, equipment and concrete apron using 400ml/m2 for rough/absorbent surfaces and 300ml/m2 for smooth surfaces disinfect using INTERKOKASK CONCENTRATE at 4% (1:25)
3.2 – Apply through a wide-angle fan-spray nozzle adjusted down to 1000psi (70 bar) – 300psi (20 bar).
In buildings with automatic spraying/misting systems pay extra attention to areas where red mite and red mite eggs were seen using additional spray lance disinfection to treat these areas. Don’t forget dung/egg belts.
3.3 – RINSE ALL SPRAY EQUIPMENT WITH ALKALIENE BLUE 1% THOROUGHLY
3.4 – Leave INTERKOKASK CONCENTRATE to work for 24 hours!
3.5 – Buildings with built-in misting/spraying systems should be rinsed with ALKALIENE BLUE when the contact period is completed.
3.6 – When the shed has dried
Disinfect with either INTERCID 2.5% (1:25) (recommended) applied through a spray lance as described above, or using the building’s misting/fogging system.
Or go directly to step 3.7
3.7 – When the shed has dried fog the building with INTER-FORMALDEHYDE @ 20ml/m3 (+ Interfog – optional).

4

DISINFECTION CONTROL

5.1 – When the building is safe to enter, test the area using TVC swabs, focussing on the litter-line, vents, control room and corridors.
5.2 – If TVC levels are too high, repeat steps 4.1 &/or 4.2. Then retest (step 5.1) until levels are normal.

5

RESTOCKING

5.1 – Re-stock the sheds with litter, movable equipment and replace boot-dips at shed access points.
Fill the bootdips with 2% INTERCID (or 0.5% INTERSTERIL for organic farms).
5.2 – (optional in case of severe red mite infestations) FOG the building with CBM8 MV to kill red mite adults.
COLD FOG 150 – 200ml per 10 litres water 1,000m3, or THERMAL FOG using 200ml/1,000m3
5.3 – Lower and refill water lines and tun-off end-of-line taps when full.
5.4 – Lower and refill feed lines.
5.5 – Place chick papers.

6

PRE-STOCKING SHED SANITISATION

7.1 – Cover feeders and drinker cups/bells.
7.2 – Thermal fog INTERDES F at a dilution rate of 1:24 (for routine sanitisation) or 1:19 (for intensive sanitisation). Re-enter shed when fog has gone.

7

RESTOCKING AND AFTER-CARE

8.1 – Restock with chicks.
8.2 – Change the disinfectant in bootdips twice a week if using INTERCID at 2%
8.3 – Regularly disinfect service corridors/control rooms etc. with INTERDES F spray at 1.5%.
